Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a (Senior) Scientist - Characterization of Particulate Systems , located in Beerse – Belgium ( Fixed term 1 year , possible extension).

Based on your professional experience and educational background, we have the flexibility to tailor the position's level and responsibilities accordingly.

Advanced Materials Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) is part of the Global Analytical Development organization within the Therapeutics Development & Supply (TDS) - Synthetics department. AMCI is a complementary team of approx.. 40 scientists, leading global analytical investigations and advanced characterization for the Synthetic Molecules R&D and commercial product portfolio.

Within the subunit Particulate systems and metals, we are currently looking for a highly motivated scientist in the field of particle and powder characterization of various particulate systems, including active ingredients, excipients, and drug product. The scientist will work within multi-functional teams, including Chemical and Pharmaceutical Development, to enable the development and selection of materials with suitable physical attributes for pharmaceutical process and product development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply expertise in particle science to study and understand the properties of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and their impact on processing routes for oral solid dosage forms. To achieve this you will closely collaborate with crystallization experts, formulation scientists and process engineers.

  • You will design, set up and perform experiments in the lab and will ensure integration of the results and dissemination to project teams.

  • Contribute to the research and development efforts towards the establishment of a manufacturing classification system.

  • Responsible for internal & external innovation and collaborations

  • Prepare CAPEX investment plans to consolidate (and expand) capabilities.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • PhD or Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field with a focus on particle science.

  • Experience in particle sizing technologies such as Laser diffraction and Microscopy (Image analysis). Understanding of the relation of particle properties to bulk behavior and process ability of materials up to product quality level meeting the desired critical quality attributes.

  • Knowledge on characterization approaches of powder behavior (such as powder flow, shear testing, triboelectrification properties, etc.)

  • Proven experience in particle technology, preferably in pharmaceutical industry

Competencies & Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Knowledge on statistical methodologies PCA/PLS and up to date with mechanistic models in the field of powder processing

  • In-depth understanding of drug product manufacturing processes for oral solid dosage forms, including granulation, milling, and compression.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present complex technical information.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

  • Prior experience with regulatory submissions and knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) is preferred.

  • Proficient written and oral English communication skills.
