Ohio University Analytical Research Scientist (RROC) in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

The Russ College of Engineering & Technology’s Office of the Dean at Ohio University invites applications for the position of Analytical Research Scientist. The Analytical Research Scientist will be a subject matter expert who will direct the use of multiple scientific research instruments and techniques and develop testing plans and protocols for researchers at Ohio University’s Russ Research Opportunity Center ( RROC ). The position will design and implement solutions for complex research issues, mentor peers in analytical techniques and quality control, reviewand validate analytical data and produce reports and publications as necessary.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Coordinates and conducts research with multiple project teams/individuals throughout the research center (PIs, post docs, research engineers, graduate students, etc.); develops testing plans and protocols; designs and implements solutions to address highly complex research project issues; serves as co-principal investigator as needed;

  2. Serves as lead on use of specialized scientific analytical equipment such as Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer ( GCMS ), X-Ray Diffractor ( XRD ), Scanning Electron Microscope ( SEM ), High Performance Liquid Chromatography ( HPLC ) among others; mentors peers (PIs, post docs, research engineers, etc.) in method development, validation, troubleshooting, instrumentation,

laboratory practices, and quality control;

  1. Reviews and checks analytical data generated by peers and maintains integrity of data; prepares reports on research outcomes and the equipment utilized; prepares research results and written summaries of results in manuscript form for publications and in graphics form for presentation at research meetings and for grant proposals;

  2. Oversees shared analytical space, related entities, and equipment in the Russ Research Opportunity Center;

  3. Supervises graduate student workers as assigned or hired.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a Related Field.;

  • At least 4 years of experience
