The Hyperbaric Oxygen Tech administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Physician and supports the safe operation of the department.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Hyperbaric Oxygen Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Patient Care:
Assisting in patient preparation for treatment, including the changing of simple patient dressings. Monitoring patient glucose and vital signs, and documenting all outcomes.
Keeping complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to treatment documentation.
Patient Safety:
Maintaining a safe environment in the hyperbaric facility for patients and staff and uses approved and recognized decompression procedures for all persons with a hyperbaric exposure to inert gasses.
Ensuring that testing of all modifications is performed and documented within a timely manner.
Departmental Support:
Assisting in front office coverage during times of low treatment volume.
Supporting clinical hyperbaric facility accreditation.
Maintaining all facility safety-related standards and records as required by various licensing and regulatory agencies.
Education:
Reinforcing education to patients, clinical team, hospital personnel, as it relates to hyperbaric therapy.
Maintaining competencies, continuing education and certifications as appropriate, while ensuring all chamber operators maintain competencies.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Licensed Practical Nurse or Certified Patient Care Technician or Emergency Medical Technician Certification required
Maintain and demonstrate competency in BLS and infection control required
Ability to learn internal clinical outcomes databases and upload photos required
Proficient in basic wound care required
Detail oriented and maintain heightened awareness of safety required
Strong customer service skills and the ability to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
