OVERVIEW

UES, a BlueHalo Company, has an opportunity for a Research Scientist with skills relevant to the synthesis and processing of polymers, and hybrid organic-inorganic materials to join our research team at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. The focus of their work would be the investigation of hybrid materials comprised of sol gel derived glass ceramics and high performance polymers.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Conduct basic research focused on synthesis, development, processing, and materials characterization, to produce novel polymeric materials and evaluation of their behavior in ceramic composites.
• Investigate chemistry-microstructure-processing-property relationships. Probe the interaction of the organic polymer with the formation of inorganic structure.
• Apply polymer chemistry, polymer physics, and materials science principles to develop an understanding of the mechanistic impact on viscosity, microstructure etc, and the resulting toughness and thermal performance of the hybrid composite materials.
• The candidate is expected to collaborate with AFRL's multidisciplinary researchers and aid in the development of technologies for U.S. national security interests. We are particularly interested in highly motivated, adaptable, and capable individuals with degrees in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related fields.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL BRING

• This position involves working within a government facility and requires U.S. Citizenship
• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or related technical fields
• Chemical synthesis and characterization of polymeric materials
• Ability to learn and master new processing and characterization techniques
• Must be self-motivated, with good interpersonal skills, and be effective collaborator with researchers from different technical backgrounds
• This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills
