Description

Lee County is pleased to announce an exciting new position within our Facilities Construction and Management Department. We are seeking a motivated, high energy, self-starter to serve in the role of Senior Trades Worker Indoor Environmental Quality and Life Safety.

This is a highly skilled and advanced technical level position that will be responsible for conducting investigations and inspections of reported incidents, including issues in both scopes of work. The ideal candidate will possess a meticulous attention to detail and have the ability to work under pressure as well as deadlines. Furthermore, the candidate must possess a positive attitude and be able to work in a team atmosphere and independently without much direction.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for a variety of tasks including, but not limited to - escorting and supervision of vendor, employees for life safety equipment inspections, repairs and services related to these systems.

  • Indoor environmental inspections, technical preliminary testing and performance of remediations s etting up containments, engineering controls, removing, discarding, and or properly cleaning affected materials that have been identified as contaminated or having potential for becoming contaminated under direction of licensed and trained personnel.

  • Emergency response for any County Emergency as required (24/7/365 on call readiness) on a rotating basis.

  • Water extraction and wet materials mitigation to alleviate potential for microbial concerns.

  • Testing and recording of Fire Pump exercise P.M.s to meet NFPA code guidelines.

  • Performing fire sprinkler corrosion inspections periodically as required.

  • Location and labeling Fire Dampers per NFPA code (once every 4 years in all County owned/operated facilities.)

  • Periodic testing and replacement of NAC panel and FACP panel batteries.

  • Keeping properties maintained for purpose of Fire officials easy visual identification of FDC hose connection access.

  • Checking, maintaining and installation of all Fire System related signage as per code guidelines.

  • Maintenance of fire pumps and backflow preventers as necessary (scrape rusty components, paint and lube/adjust, cut back overgrown vegetation if necessary.)

  • Making safety a priority by inspecting, identifying, reporting and correcting immediately if possible all concerns while working out in the field.

  • Installation of temporary safety barriers if unable to correct safety concerns immediately.

  • Remove and replace discolored/wet ceiling tiles.

  • Photo documentation of property loss projects before, during and after for accurate record keeping and submission to Risk Management personnel for insurance recovery purposes.

  • Incumbent applies a variety of materials to various areas of the facilities we service while performing reconstruction of spaces that have been remediated or discarded due to some other type of damage occurrence, flood, fire, chemical spill, etc.

  • This may require framing, drywall skills, flooring installation, and other finishes.

  • Working knowledge of drywall repair and texturing finishes.

  • Skills required to perform the job functions include methods, techniques, materials, safety practices and tools of the trade; including but not limited to, operating pressure washers, airless and HVLP spray equipment, brushes, rollers, ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts, handling hazardous materials, technical devices (infrared cameras, particle counter, ATP meter, moisture meter, disassemble, clean and perform filter changes as necessary on specialized air scrubbers, dehumidifiers, air purifiers, blowers and drying equipment after each use).

  • Customary physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Working conditions may include heat, cold, wind and rain.

Education, Experience, Licensing

  • Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school/GED and two years of work experience in Indoor Environmental Quality, Disaster Clean-Up, Structural Drying Techniques, Water Restoration, General Construction, or any other closely related field.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

  • Will be required to undergo a fingerprint based NCIC background check and must be able to obtain a security clearance from the Lee County Sheriff's Office and will be required to undergo a "fingerprint based" criminal background check and must be able to obtain security clearance from the State's Attorney Office in addition to the standard Consumer Report based background check that is required for all conditional offers of employment.

Supplemental Information

  • Incumbent will be expected to respond immediately during/after a reported emergency/disaster unless excused by management.

  • Must be able to interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner.

  • Any Indoor Environmental Quality or related licenses, certifications and or certificates of training in various aspects of disaster response and/or FASA/BASA (Fire Alarm Systems Agent/Burglar Alarm Systems Agent) certifications are preferred but not required for consideration.

  • Knowledge of standards, methods, materials, and tools of the Indoor Air Quality field, as well as awareness of codes, rules, and regulations governing this position is preferred.

  • Knowledge of proper handling and clean-up of chemical and biological (Class III) contaminants is preferred.

  • Ability to operate highly specialized equipment for reading CO2, CO, RH, and temperature.

  • Ability to attend and retain training session information as required and to keep up on latest remediation and structural drying techniques/trends.

  • Ability to perform visual and mechanical inspections on all types of HVAC systems preferred.

  • Ability to lift a 60-pound pump and be able to climb ladders, scaffolding, to reach, stoop, squat and work in small spaces in extreme temperatures.

  • May be required to work from blueprints and sketches.

  • Prefer good computer and communication skills.

  • The workdays and hours for this position are Monday through Thursday 6:30 am – 5:00 pm (until training is complete, at which time the days and hours may be adjusted for shop coverage purposes).
