POSITION SUMMARY:\ The Electronic Specialist performs technical oversight requiring considerable independent judgment in the application of a broad range of directives, policies, procedures and techniques associated with ITS networking systems and other electrical traffic control related devices. The incumbent must perform safe operation of equipment and adhere to all City of Nampa safety standards and procedures. The incumbent will be assigned within a pre-determined On-Call rotation schedule for non-business hours emergencies. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this classification establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with City of Nampa employees, State, Local & Federal representatives, partner agency stakeholders, private developers, private consultants, private contractors, and all other associated manufacture representatives. All work performed is under the supervision and direction of the of the assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:\ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:\ Inspect, test, repair, maintain and install ITS communications, ITS electrical components and ethernet networking communications equipment.\ Inspect, test, repair, maintain and install all affiliated traffic CCTV and surveillance systems.\ Inspect, test, repair, maintain and install fiber optic communications systems.\ Inspect, test, repair, maintain and install and repair variable message board systems.\ Inspect, test, repair, maintain and install traffic signal cabinets, overhead street lighting and other electrical traffic control device equipment.\ Interact, inform and advise representatives of partner agencies concerning the maintenance and operations pertinent with the City of Nampa ITS network systems.\ Consult and assist engineering personnel in the design, specifications, selection and requisition of ITS materials, equipment and supplies needed in the planning with new project design and construction.\ Read and intermate blueprints, plans and schematic drawings.\ Provide technical oversight to other electronic signal technicians in the design and installation of ITS network equipment and other electrical traffic control related devices as delegated.\ Train other Traffic Division personnel in the installation, maintenance and repair of ITS network equipment and systems.\ Evaluate and take corrective action on citizen complaints pertaining electrical traffic control devices.\ Coordinate emergency repairs.\ \ ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:\ Maintain electronic safety precautions.\ Review signal construction plans and attend pre-construction meetings.\ Review construction plans and assure all electrical requirements are met.\ Analyze and projec needs of project unit activity.\ Assist in preparation of reports and records.\ Work from oral and written instruction.\ \ \ WHAT YOU WILL BRING:\ REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:\ High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) is required.\ Journeyman License, and or at least 5 years combination of traffic signal, overhead street lighting and other electrical experience which shall provide the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities.\ At least 3 years documented experience involving computers, data processing equipment, data communications equipment, fiber optic networks, Ethernet networks, ITS system installation and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to fulfill the requirement of this position.\ \ PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:\ Completion of a 4-year Electrical Apprenticeship program\ Electrical Journeyman License.\ IMSA Certifications - Traffic Signals Levels I, II & III.\ Traffic Control & Flagging Certificati
