Indian Health Service Mental Health Specialist in Rosebud, South Dakota

Summary This position is located at the Rosebud Service Unit in Rosebud, SD. Incumbent provides clinical mental health services to eligible patients on all age groups with a focus and specialty in child and adolescent therapy. Responsibilities Performs individual, marital/couples, family, and group psychotherapies for children, adolescents, and adults. Provides referral, intake, diagnostic, treatment, crisis intervention, and consultation services for mental health patients in compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Coordinates service provisions to patients and consults with professional colleagues as needed to promote optimal patient care. Participates in staff planning and team networking regarding cases, their diagnoses and treatment. Provides immediate assessment and supportive skills with patients in crisis and provides referrals as appropriate. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. or Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. or Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-9: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7 grade level AND/OR two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. GS-11: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-9 grade level AND/OR three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of Specialized Experience: GS-9: Provide basic assessment, diagnose, and treat a range of psychiatric illnesses; identify and assess psychosocial functioning; understand and respond to medical treatment; provide therapeutic intervention to improve wellness; provide intensive case management services to include liaison, consultation, and teaching relationships to multidisciplinary team; provide referral services and counseling to all age groups. GS-11: Collaborate with other health professionals to assess client needs; refer patients to community resources; provide individual or group counseling; coordinate care with expert diagnostic and treatment consultation to medical providers; assess in-patient needs and patient discharge planning; provide therapy to all age groups utilizing a variety of accepted treatment techniques; develop treatment plans; provide interventions surrounding drug, alcohol, co-occurring disorders, and crisis intervention to potentially life-threatening emergencies. Selective Placement Factor GS-09: This position requires a current, unrestricted U.S. State license as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
