Executive Director, Strategic Commercial Operations – Analytical Services Division

As the Executive Director, Strategic Commercial Operations, you will provide comprehensive support to the President, Analytical Services Division (ASD) of PPD, a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, and the ASD divisional leadership team. This role will report into the President, ASD. The Executive Director will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of ASD Commercial by serving on the executive Commercial leadership team of ASD, driving strategic initiatives, ensuring efficient daily operations within commercial operations and helping to foster effective communication within the team. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership and organizational skills, the ability to provide critical insights and oversight to enhance decision-making processes and quality and possess a deep understanding of the laboratory testing and CRO industries. The Executive Director, Strategic Commercial Operations will act as a trusted advisor and partner to the ASD divisional leadership team, providing high-level support and driving the successful execution of key commercial objectives. The position is global in nature and can be located remotely out of the United States.

You will enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer by helping our clients and sponsors to understand how our laboratory service offering enables them to deliver life-changing therapies to their patients more quickly.

What will you do:

  • Drive Strategy to Action: collaborate with President, ASD and ASD divisional leadership team, to develop and execute strategic initiatives that maximize salesforce effectiveness, ensuring alignment with ASD’s commercial goals and objectives. This will include formulation and execution of business plans and monitor and evaluating progress towards goals with appropriate risk identification and mitigation strategies.

  • Deliver Operational Excellence: collaborate with President, ASD and ASD divisional leadership team to develop and implement effective policies, procedures, and best practices to streamline operations and ensure compliance. Oversee day-to-day operations of commercial team, including developing and implementing performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and track progress. Identify areas for improvement and recommend innovative solutions to optimize commercial operations.

  • Leverage Financial Analysis and Reporting: analyze sales data, market trends, and competitor information to identify opportunities for growth and improvement and support improved decision making across the commercial team. Develop and direct use of reporting tools and capabilities that enable effective analysis and communication for resourcing needs, priority reporting, and other needs as determined by the operational strategy. Effectively communicate commercial performance, highlighting key trends, opportunities, and challenges. Collaborate with Finance teams to develop budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support commercial planning and decision-making.

  • Support Team and Stakeholder Relationship Management: facilitate effective communication and collaboration across the ASD Commercial organization, ensuring smooth workflow, information sharing, and problem resolution. Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, both within ASD (including functional areas), across CRG Sales and across Thermo Fisher, including specifically the Corporate Accounts function to ensure alignment and successful execution of commercial initiatives. Represent ASD divisional leadership team in meetings, conferences, and other relevant forums, as required.

  • Manage Key Projects: lead and manage key cross-functional projects, ensuring deadlines are met and deliverables are achieved. Monitor project progress, identify potential roadblocks, and proactively address issues to ensure project success.

How will you get here:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, sales, or a related field is the required minimum education; MBA or advanced degree is preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job comparable to 15+ years.

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a commercial function.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated success in a similar role that has consistently achieved measurable results.

  • Understanding of the Biotech/Pharma landscape, including market dynamics and competitive landscape.

  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking abilities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights (including strong presentation skills and ability to contribute to executive-level discourse)

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency in financial analysis and reporting.

  • Proficiency in using relevant software applications, including CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis tools.

  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.

  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to accomplish assigned goals.

Working Conditions and Environment:

  • Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.

  • Occasional travel, both domestic and international.

  • Interaction with clients/associates required.

  • Long varied hours required occasionally.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day

  • Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.

  • Moderate mobility required.

  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.

  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.

  • Ability to apply abstract principles to solve complex conceptual issues. Requires multiple periods of intense concentration.

  • Performs a wide range of complex tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence.

  • Regular and consistent attendance.
