Nevada Copper Senior Buyer in Yerington, Nevada

Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.

Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Buyer for is responsible for obtaining the best quality, service and value when sourcing materials for the organization that enables cost savings, quality materials, and on-time delivery for operational excellence. The Senior Buyer will work within the supply-chain team and across the organization to identify purchasing needs, assist in the selection of suppliers, negotiate rates and arrange deliveries. They will conduct analysis to recommend sourcing decisions. They will be responsible for purchasing of parts, equipment, services and materials to meet operational needs.

Accountability:

The Senior Buyer reports to the Manager, Supply Chain. The position is in Yerington, NV.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies and procedures.

  • Conducts purchasing activities aligned with the supply chain philosophy and strategy, executing and supporting sourcing projects through selected and approved suppliers.

  • Designs and implements process improvements with a continuous improvement mind set.

  • Monitors past and current supplier performance. Ensures compliance to all regulations, goals, contracts, and objectives

  • Coordinate the flow of materials and products through the supply chain by communicating with other departments within the organization

  • Work with other team members (Warehouse / Inventory Control) to address shortages, backlog, and inventory levels for assigned areas to maximize on time delivery performance and minimize inventory investment and Make recommendations on inventory levels as demand changes.

  • Provides cost estimates for purchasing requests in a timely manner, transacts purchases of goods and services efficiently with a high level of accuracy, urgency and quality to meet business needs.

  • Collaborates with operations, materials and procurement teams to optimize total value and complete work to support organizational goals. Communicates and completes work, ensuring information, quoting and sourcing is completed with suppliers.

  • Review purchase orders to ensure they are accurate and complete

  • Reviews purchase order acknowledgements and updates pricing and delivery dates in ERP system. Provides quantities required during parts shortages to ensure sourcing needs are addressed.

  • Recognizes, understands and addresses sourcing problems in a proactive manner. Meets with suppliers to understand and resolve issues in a timely manner, reducing impact on operations and sourcing needs

  • Communicates with suppliers, discussing quotes and price increases, negotiating rates, and evaluating service and quality. Maintains updated price lists, ensuring accuracy in invoicing.

  • Ensure timely and professional service to user departments in the execution of purchase orders

  • Reconcile discrepancies between PO receipts and Accounts Payable

  • Identify gaps and ensure development and coaching

    Knowledge/Education:

    The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Three to five (3-5) years’ experience in purchasing or procurement specialist role preferred

  • Familiarity with the mining industry strongly preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or related field preferred

  • Experience recommending and implementing continuous improvements in sourcing preferred.

  • Prior experience utilizing Microsoft Dynamics software strongly preferred as well as experience using ERP systems.

  • Experience in working with suppliers including price negotiations and cost reduction initiatives

  • Experience analyzing quotes and conducting value analysis for strategic sourcing decisions

  • Strong safety behaviors including familiarity with and adherence to all MSHA standards required

    Physical Demands:

    The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:

  • Lift and potentially carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license

  • Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms

  • Walk on uneven ground

  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions

  • Sit for extended periods of time

  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity

  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.

  • The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hand, and wrists.

    Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

    The incumbent work schedule is typically a 40 hour/week schedule. The incumbent may be required to modify this schedule to support the needs of the business. Personal Protective Equipment required for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
